Description of the Laboratory and equipment

The group carries out its activities by working in two laboratories: the Laboratory for Mobile Robotics and Vision Control, and the Laboratory for 3D Modelling and Visualization. Laboratories are equipped with a variety of devices for measuring biosignals (EMG, XSens inertial sensors) and image acquisition (standard camcorders, 3D cameras and high-speed cameras), as well as other signal acquisition devices (3D scanner, Leap Motion, accelerometers, Kinect). In addition to the above, the laboratories are equipped with several unmanned aerial vehicles, mobile robotic platforms, robotics kits (Arduino, NXT Mindstorm, AlphaBot) and several types of embedded computers for use in robotics.

project title

Intelligent methods for biosignals and environments (IMEOBIO)

Project research activities

The project group research interests are related to various aspects of the functionality of the bio-identification system (persons or activities) and identification/visualization of the environment realized using different types of sensors that include video, but also sensors such as accelerometers, 3D scanners, magnetometers, IR sensors, etc.

Given that the interest of the group is partly focused on bioelectrical data obtained, for example, on the basis of EEG, and / or phonopneumograms from which strong features of individuality can be derived, it is expected that the theoretical framework will provide advanced machine learning methods. A certain set of activities will be focused on the management of mobile robots/vehicles/aircraft with application for search and rescue purposes. The subject of research is related to the development of mobile robot control algorithms, but also to augmented reality visualization techniques that facilitate the task when control is not completely autonomous.

The third group of activities includes various 3D modeling and virtualization processes that ensure emphasizing of the important details and usability of solutions provided by high-tech sensors such as 3D laser scanners. Such activities are increasingly used in the restoration of archaeological sites, documentation of existing phases of construction/excavation, documentation of cultural heritage, equipment and shipbuilding, etc. 3D laser scanning, although a relatively new measurement technology, has imposed itself as a new technological standard because it allows precise optical measurements and modeling of complex objects and environments. The purpose of research activities is to apply 3D laser scanning technology to the development of innovative content for commercial and scientific purposes.

In particular, these could be precise photorealistic 3D models and the application of the latest knowledge in the field of 3D measurement, modeling and virtualization.
