Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture publishes the following

 

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

 

for admission of students to:

  • DOCTORAL STUDY IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY,
  • DOCTORAL STUDY IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

for the academic year 2024/2025.

 

The duration of the doctoral study programme for obtaining the doctoral degree is three years, i.e. six semesters and is equivalent to 180 ECTS credits. Following the completion of studies, the Doctor of Technical Science (PhD) degree is awarded.

The number of available places for admission to doctoral study in electrical engineering and information technology is maximum 25 students.

The number of available places for admission to doctoral study in mechanical engineering is maximum 20 students.

 

Admission requirements:

The following categories of applicants are eligible for admission to doctoral studies:

  • applicants who completed a corresponding graduate university study programme or integrated undergraduate and graduate university study programme or specialist university study programme, acquiring at least 300 ECTS credits at the completed levels of studies and with a weighted grade point average achieved at the undergraduate and graduate level (including the differential programmes) of at least 3.50, i.e. equivalent grade in other assessment systems, or applicants who are in the group of 20 % best students of their generation. Exceptionally, the Committee can approve admission of applicants with a weighted grade point average of less than 3.50 or applicants who are not in the group of 20 % best students of their generation, based on recommendations of two teachers appointed to scientific-teaching positions.
  • applicants who completed a corresponding study programme at a foreign university. Eligibility for admission to doctoral study is determined by the relevant Committee for doctoral studies at the Faculty and the Committee may require taking differential exams.
  • exceptionally, applicants who have completed graduate university study programme or integrated undergraduate and graduate university study programme or specialist university study programme or graduate university study programme (pre-Bologna) in other fields of science than those determined by the study programme, with a requirement of taking differential exams (decision on the content of differential exams is delivered by the relevant Committee for doctoral studies at the Faculty)
  • applicants who completed a corresponding graduate university study programme (pre-Bologna), with a weighted grade point average achieved of at least 3.50, or applicants who are in the group of 20 % best students of their generation. Exceptionally, the Committee for doctoral studies can approve admission of applicants with a weighted grade point average of less than 3.50 or applicants who are not in the group of 20 % best students of their generation, based on recommendations of two teachers appointed to scientific-teaching positions.
  • applicants who earned a degree of Master of Science in a corresponding field of science in the Republic of Croatia or an equivalent foreign degree in a corresponding field of science. Applicants with a postgraduate Master of Science degree are admitted to the 4th semester of the doctoral study programme, with a requirement of taking the PhD qualifying exam.
  • admission may be granted to applicants who earned a degree of Master of Science in other fields of engineering sciences. For these applicants, the Committee may require that they take differential and/or additional exams. Applicants with a Master of Science degree are admitted to the 4th semester of doctoral study programme, with a requirement of taking the PhD qualifying exam.
  • applicants who passed all the exams at the postgraduate science degree programme, but did not defend their Master of Science thesis are admitted to the 3rd semester of the doctoral study programme, with a requirement of taking the PhD qualifying exam. For these applicants, the Committee may require that they take differential and/or additional exams.

 

Selection of candidates for admission to doctoral studies is based on admissions procedure, among applicants who fulfil the conditions for admission to doctoral studies, and the final decision on admission is made by the Faculty Council, in accordance with the Faculty Regulations on doctoral studies.

The tuition fee for doctoral study is 7.800,00 EUR per student, paid in advance, in full amount or at the time of enrolment for each semester (instalments of 1.300,00 EUR per semester).

The following documents are submitted with the application:

  • filled-in application form
  • certificate of nationality and birth certificate
  • certified copy of diploma* and their official translation to Croatian language
  • academic transcripts from undergraduate and graduate university-level study or integrated undergraduate and graduate university-level study or specialist university-level study or graduate university-level study (pre-Bologna) and class rankings for your graduating class
  • CV
  • list of scientific and professional papers
  • motivation letter
  • written statement signed by the applicant on accepting the tuition fee costs (if the applicant covers the costs of the study)
  • decision of the company or institution on covering the costs of the study (if legal entities cover the costs of the study, OIB (legal entity ID number) must be supplied)
  • confirmation of paid enrolment fee (except for Faculty assistant) and two photographs.

 

*Applicants who are FESB graduates do not need to certify diploma copy or supply class rankings.

 

Applicants who completed their studies abroad are required to initiate a procedure of academic recognition of foreign higher education qualifications, with the purpose of continuing their studies in the Republic of Croatia, and need to submit the proof of initiated procedure of academic recognition of foreign higher education qualification with the application documents. The procedure is initiated with the Academic Recognition Office of the University of Split, and detailed information is available at the University of Split web site: Academic recognition-documents

 

Applications are delivered in person to the mail services office of the Faculty or by registered mail to the Faculty postal address, with a note: “Application for admission to doctoral study”.

 

Call for applications is open starting with the publication date until September 30, 2024.

 

Exceptionally, if the number of available places for admission to doctoral study is not filled, applications for admission can be submitted until November 30, 2024.

 

The final decision on implementing the doctoral studies is issued by the Faculty Dean, if it is determined that there are a sufficient number of applicants who fulfil the admission conditions.
