Enrolment into doctoral study programmes

Doctoral study is not only for excellent students – it is an excellent choice for engineers inclined to academic research. However serious it may be, this study programme serves committed individuals and is not the standard study programme you had already finished. You can gain access to the support and assistance necessary to accomplish your goals. Find out more about enrolment into the final stage of academic education.

Enrolment steps for the first year of doctoral study

1. CHECK ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Completed a corresponding graduate university study programme or intergrated undergraduate and graduate university study programme or specialist university study programme, acquiring at least 300 ECTS credits at the completed levels of studies and with a weighted grade point average achieved at the undergraduate and graduate level (including the differential programmes) of at least 3.50, i.e. equivalent grade in other assessment systems, or applicants who are in the group of 20% best students of their generation.
  2. Completed a corresponding graduate university study programme (pre-Bologna), with an average grade of at least 3.50 or applicants who are in the group of 20% best students of their generation.
  3. Eligibility for students who completed a corresponding graduate university study programme at a foreign university is determined by a Committee for postgraduate studies and the Committee may require taking differential exams.
  4. Eligible for enrolment to postgraduate doctoral study are applicants who earned a degree of Master of Science in a corresponding field of science in the Republic of Croatia or an equivalent foreign degree in a corresponding field of science. Applicants with a postgraduate Master of Science degree are admitted to the 4th semester of the doctoral study programme, with a requirement of taking the PhD qualifying exam.
  5. Applicants who passed all the exams at the postgraduate science degree programme, but did not defend their Master of Science thesis are admitted to the 3rd semester of the doctoral study programme, with a requirement of taking PhD qualifying exam. For these applicants, the Committee may require that they take differential and/or additional exams.

GPA LESS THAN 3.50

Applicants with an average grade of less than 3.50 or applicants who are not in the group of 20 % best students of their generation, may be admitted on the basis of recommendations of two teachers appointed to scientific-teaching position.

OTHER SCIENTIFIC FIELDS OF ENGINEERING SCIENCES

Applicants who graduated or earned a degree of Master of Science in other fields of engineering sciences may also apply, with a requirement of taking differential and/or additional exams, as determined by the Committee for doctoral studies.

3. SEARCH FOR A SUPERVISOR

After you get acquainted with the courses and the subject area you want to pursue, you should also find a supervisor in this area.
The supervisor will assist you throughout your doctoral studies, and from the very beginning you need to define with your supervisor the narrow subject field anticipated for your doctoral dissertation.

NOTE

The supervisor can only be one of the professors teaching doctoral courses.

4. COLLECT NECESSARY DOCUMENTS

ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE ORIGINALS

1. Notarised copy of diploma certificate
2. Academic transcripts from the undergraduate and graduate studies and list of top students from the applicant’s graduating class.
3. CV
5. List of scientific and professional papers

NOTE

The remaining required documents are listed in the Call for applications to the Faculty’s Doctoral Studies, published at the Faculty’s website.
If you have completed your studies at FESB, you do not need to notarise a copy of your diploma certificate or submit a ranking list of students in your graduating class.

5. PREPARE A PHOTO

STANDARD ID PHOTO

  • Required dimensions 3.5cm x 4.5cm.
  • Close-up of face, head and shoulders.

6. PREPARE A STATEMENT OF COSTS

Costs of doctoral study are € 7,800.00 per student, payable in instalments of € 1,300.00 per semester.
In addition to other documents, you should also provide a statement specifying who will cover the costs of the study (you personally or company / institution of employment).

7. PAY THE ENROLMENT FEE AND SUBMIT THE CONFIRMATION OF PAYMENT

  1. Bring a receipt confirming payment of the amount of EUR 53,09.
  2. Enter your OIB as the payee reference number.
  3. Make a payment to the Faculty bank account HR2823600001102061001 and enter HR67 as the payment model.

8. COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THE APPLICATION FORM

9. SUBMIT ALL DOCUMENTS AND COMPLETE ENROLMENT

You can submit your application at the Faculty admissions office or send your application to the Faculty address by registered mail, with a note “Application for Admission to Doctoral Studies”.
