Instructions for foreign nationals and candidates who completed at least a four-year high-school education in the Republic of Croatia before 2010

Admission and Application Procedure

Applications for study programmes are submitted exclusively through the central application system on the website www.postani-student.hr, and applications submitted outside this system are not possible. Enrolment is carried out online, based on the data provided to the Faculty by the central application office, and according to the lists of candidates who have acquired the right to enroll through the web application https://upisi.fesb.hr/

For all inquiries regarding the recognition of foreign educational qualifications, you may contact the Central Application Office via email at student@azvo.hr or by phone at +385 (0)1 6274 844.

Requirement to take the State Matura examination

The State Matura (graduation exam) is mandatory for admission to university or professional undergraduate study programmes, as well as to university integrated undergraduate and graduate study programmes [source: Article 58(3) and Article 60(4) of the Act on Higher Education and Scientific Activity (“Narodne novine”, No. 119/2022)].

Taking the compulsory part of the State Matura, or having it officially recognized, is obligatory for all candidates.

Candidates who completed at least a four-year secondary school programme in the Republic of Croatia before 2010, as well as candidates who completed their secondary education outside Croatia, must take all State Matura exams required by the Faculty for admission. Without the passed compulsory State Matura exam(s), enrolment is not possible.

Candidates who completed secondary education outside Croatia

Candidates who completed their secondary education outside the Republic of Croatia must undergo the recognition procedure for foreign secondary-school qualifications. The recognition of foreign secondary educational qualifications for the purpose of admission to undergraduate study programmes is carried out exclusively within the central application procedure by the Agency for Science and Higher Education (AZVO) [source: Act on the Recognition and Evaluation of Foreign Educational Qualifications for the Purpose of Continuing Education at the Undergraduate Level (“Narodne novine”, No. 69/2022)].

When recognizing results of externally assessed final examinations for ranking purposes, only those exams that are comparable to the Croatian State Matura may be accepted.

For further information, please contact the Central Application Office (student@azvo.hr or +385 (0)1 6274 844). Please note that the Faculty does not carry out recognition of examination results nor does it possess information on comparability of foreign exams.

All candidates must pass (or have recognized) the compulsory part of the State Matura (Croatian Language, Mathematics, Foreign Language).

If a candidate holds citizenship of an EU Member State and completed secondary education abroad, the first language taken as part of their externally assessed final examination may be recognized instead of the Croatian language from the Croatian State Matura.

Candidates who cannot take one of the required State Matura subjects in their home country may register for and take only that specific subject in the Croatian State Matura examination.

Admission Quotas

Three quotas are defined for undergraduate studies at the Faculty (e.g. Electrical Engineering and Information Technology: 180 + 2* + 2**):

  • First number (180): quota for EU citizens (including Croatian citizens)
  • Second number (2*): quota for Croatian expatriates – members of the sovereign and constituent Croatian people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, members of Croatian national minorities in European countries, as well as Croatian emigrants abroad and their descendants
Note: Candidates from Bosnia and Herzegovina may apply both within the EU quota and within the expatriate quota.
  • Third number (2**): special quota for non-EU foreign nationals

Detailed information about quotas and admission requirements for each study programme is available at www.postani-student.hr
