Group description

The research group specializes in the processing and analysis of data collected by remote sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles, and satellites, as well as their integration into GIS systems for risk modeling and assessment using high-performance computing. The group develops IoT sensors and communication systems based on LoRaWAN technology to support emergency services, as well as mobile sensor platforms equipped with RGB, thermal, and other sensors for edge data processing. In addition, the group focuses on the optimization and acceleration of computing applications using advanced hardware accelerators and graphics processing units (GPUs).

Expertise and know-how

  • Processing of images from remote sensors (RGB, multispectral, LiDAR), unmanned aerial vehicles, and satellites; mapping onto GIS platforms; and development of various risk assessment models using HPC infrastructure
  • Development of IoT sensors and implementation of LoRaWAN systems with supporting software for monitoring emergency service personnel in the field
  • Development of mobile sensor systems based on RGB and thermal cameras and other sensors, with edge data processing using various technologies, including NVIDIA Jetson, Qualcomm RB5, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 865
  • Acceleration of applications at CERN using various hardware accelerators, primarily AMD graphics processing units (GPUs)

Collaboration opportunities

The research group is open to collaboration in the development of comprehensive systems for the acquisition, processing, analysis, and presentation of spatial and sensor data, tailored to the specific needs of end users.

Specific areas of collaboration include:

  • Remote sensing and data acquisition using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), satellite systems, RGB, thermal, multispectral, and LiDAR sensors, as well as distributed IoT sensor networks.
  • Integration of heterogeneous data sources, including UAV, satellite, IoT, meteorological, and other spatial data.
  • Online edge data processing (edge computing) for applications requiring data processing and decision-making in real or near-real time.
  • Offline processing and analysis of large volumes of data using HPC infrastructure, graphics processing units (GPUs), computer vision, artificial intelligence, and advanced data processing algorithms.
  • GIS integration, spatial analysis, modeling, and risk assessment based on collected and processed data.
  • Development of user-oriented systems for visualization and presentation of results, including web, desktop, GIS, and video wall solutions.

Collaboration is possible with research institutions, public services, and industry, ranging from the development of demonstrators and pilot systems to the implementation of operational solutions.
