project title

Autonomous SWATH Ship for Adriatic Sea Surveillance (ASSASS)

Description of research in a 1-year term

The focus of research for the next one year will be on the design and analysis of the SWATH type catamaran vessel. The structural design needs to be defined, and according to the target performance and the purpose of the vessels, the arrangement of structural elements and assemblies, and the accommodation of the equipment. For the resulting arrangement of the structure and location of the necessary equipment, it is necessary to analyze the strength of the vessel. This will be made by numerical methods, such as the final elements method in the available software at FESB. As part of this analysis, the influence of the shape and arrangement of the structural elements on the global and local strength of the vessel, with a special emphasis on the strength of the deck joints with the struts and the struts with underwater hulls, to optimize the structure in order to obtain the structure that is as light as possible.
